Tom leads the Energy Management Systems (EnMS) and Environmental Management Systems
(EMS) practices within Cardno EM-Assist’s growing Sustainability group. He has over 25
years of experience in civil and environmental engineering, facilities management,
and process improvement. Tom is retired Air Force Civil Engineering Officer and
is a nationally-recognized expert in Sustainability, EnMS Implementation, EMS Implementation,
and related strategic improvement initiatives. He has implemented, audited, and
integrated management systems for literally hundreds of clients including most Federal
agencies as well as private-sector manufacturing clients in the aerospace, petroleum,
steel, automotive, and pharmaceutical industries.
Tom is the author of Moving Beyond Environmental Compliance: A Handbook for Integrating
Pollution Prevention and ISO 14000 (CRC Press Nov. 1997) and of Implementing
ISO 50001 While Integrating with your Environmental Management System
(Trimark, 2011).

Tom’s educational background includes degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering
as well as Systems Management and Systems Thinking. Tom also holds six professional
registrations including:
- Professional Engineer in multiple states;
- RAB/QSA Lead Auditor (Environmental and EMS schemes); and
- LEED Accredited Professional
