Jeremy Burr

Chief Executive Officer and Director

Jeremy leads EM-Assist’s executive management team in developing and implementing company strategy and goals, and he is responsible for overall company performance. Prior to joining EM-Assist, Jeremy was the founder and Managing Partner of Venatus Capital Partners, an investment firm that deploys capital to support the ongoing growth of successful privately-owned companies with proven management teams. Previously, he spent time as an investment banker with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York, where he advised management of Fortune 500 companies in the financial institutions sector. Jeremy has also advised owners of middle-market companies with Barrington Associates, a Los Angeles-based investment banking boutique specializing in sell-side merger and acquisition advisory services. Through his experience advising middle-market clients, he gained a deep understanding of the many strategic, operational, and financial challenges faced by growing businesses. Jeremy spent a year studying at the London School of Economics and graduated magna cum laude from Williams College, where he received a BA degree with Highest Honors in Economics and Astrophysics. Jeremy also holds an MBA degree from Harvard Business School.

Lynn Meland

President

Lynn manages EM-Assist’s operations and is responsible for overseeing program and project managers across the company’s environmental services and training solutions divisions. She has extensive experience in project, contract, and personnel management and has managed cross-functional teams across a wide range of technical subjects, including environmental and aerospace projects. Prior to joining EM-Assist, Lynn held several management positions with Aerojet and Aerojet Fine Chemicals, including Director of Product Engineering, where she directed 150 engineers responsible for Aerojet’s production engineering support, and Customer Product Manager, where she was the primary customer interface and managed five product development teams responsible for introducing new chemical products. She began her career as a Design Engineer with Morton Thiokol. Lynn has a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Gregg Alex

Executive Vice President

Gregg works closely with EM-Assist’s client services team to understand client needs and create customized environmental and training solutions. He is an expert in assisting clients with their environmental compliance, information management, and computer-based training needs. Gregg works closely with EM-Assist’s training solutions division to deploy leading-edge technology to effectively meet the increasing demand among Federal government clients for interactive computer-based training. He has served as project manager for a variety of environmental assessment, air quality, hazardous material, alternative fuels, and environmental training tasks. Prior to joining EM-Assist, Gregg was an Environmental Compliance Engineer with Parsons Engineering Science, where he specialized in assisting clients in reducing compliance burdens and associated costs. Gregg has a BS degree in Computer Engineering from Auburn University and an MS degree in Environmental Science from Indiana University.

Walter Heinz, P.E.

Vice President, Federal Client Services

Wally heads EM-Assist’s client services team, which works to understand client needs and create customized environmental and training solutions. Prior to joining EM-Assist, Wally was a Vice President with CH2M HILL, serving as global Army Client Service Manager and Program Manager for Environmental Services. Wally also served as Vice President, Federal Solutions with ARCADIS, where he helped pioneer Guaranteed Fixed Price Remediation (GFPR) performance-based contracts. Earlier in his career, Wally held several positions with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including Regional Manager (Area Engineer) with the Omaha District, where he led 70 professionals across five offices overseeing environmental contracts with values in excess of $275 million. Wally has a BS degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, an MS degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from the University of Colorado, an MBA degree from Creighton University, and is a registered Professional Engineer.

Craig Blackhurst

Vice President, Federal Programs

Craig oversees EM-Assist’s environmental services division, and he manages major environmental programs across EM-Assist’s environmental service offerings. He has extensive experience in environmental compliance as well as reporting and permitting procedures, and he understands multiple engineering disciplines, including environmental, aerospace, and chemical plant management. He also has a thorough knowledge of environmental regulations including NEPA, DoD 500.2-R, RCRA, SARA, OSHA, and wastewater, pollution prevention, and hazardous materials. Prior to joining EM-Assist, Craig was Lead Environmental Engineer with TRW (now part of Northrop Grumman), where he was responsible for environmental systems engineering for environmental matters related to the production and maintenance of ICBM missile systems. Craig also served as Assistant Plant Manager and Plant Engineer for Arkansas Chemicals, managing production, operations and maintenance, environmental compliance, permitting and reporting, health and safety, and plant operating and capital budgets for a 130,000 pound-per-day bromine production plant. He began his career with Thiokol, serving as a Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, and Lead Project Engineer on the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Motor program. In addition to his responsibilities at EM-Assist, Craig serves as President of the Great Basin Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), which will be hosting the SAME 2009 National Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. Craig has a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Utah.

Teresa Crockett

Vice President, Compliance Management

Teresa oversees EM-Assist’s environmental compliance management services and works with clients to help them understand all areas of environmental compliance management, evaluate the impact of future regulatory changes, and develop and implement innovative and cost-effective compliance solutions. She designed, developed, and implemented the Air Quality Compliance Program, including integration with the Hazardous Materials Management Program, for Hill Air Force Base and continues to provide technical direction for the program. In addition, she has worked closely with the Department of Defense and the Environmental Protection Agency for over a decade in National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) development and is a recognized expert in the implementation of Titles III, V, and VI of the 1990 CAA Amendments. In addition, Teresa heads EM-Assist’s company-wide quality initiatives. Prior to joining EM-Assist, Teresa held multiple systems engineering positions at TRW (now part of Northrop Grumman) and served as Lead Environmental Engineer for Air Quality, Programmatic Environmental, Safety and Health Evaluations, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) matters related to the production and maintenance of ICBM missile systems. She also provided key environmental support to the Air Force in the privatization of Newark Air Force Base. Teresa has a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and an ME degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho.

Dwight Bird, P.E.

Vice President, Information Management

Dwight oversees EM-Assist’s environmental information management services. He is an expert in environmental data system design and implementation in support of environmental compliance programs. Dwight has designed, developed, and implemented numerous large information management systems handling data across environmental media. He is highly skilled at integrating unique user needs and regulatory requirements while establishing effective and efficient business practices and data management protocols. Prior to joining EM-Assist, Dwight worked as an engineer for EASE, providing mechanical, environmental, and safety engineering services, including designs, plans, permitting support, hazard analysis, and database development. He began his career as an Environmental Engineer with the Air Quality Division of the Utah Department of Environmental Quality. Dwight has a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah and is a registered Professional Engineer.

Adam Harvey, P.E.

Senior Program Manager, Restoration

Adam oversees EM-Assist’s environmental restoration services, and he is actively involved in coordinating the company’s internal project management and professional development programs. He has over 20 years of environmental engineering and project management experience focused on the design, construction, startup, and operation and maintenance (O&M) of complex environmental remediation and power generation systems for clients in the Air Force, Navy, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, and the State of California. Prior to joining EM-Assist, Adam worked as a Senior Environmental Engineer for URS and was responsible for managing numerous Superfund projects, including the design-build and O&M of soil vapor extraction treatment systems, groundwater treatment and monitoring systems, and acid mine drainage treatment systems for a variety of Federal and state government clients. Adam also worked as a Steam Plant Operations Manager for DynCorp and Nuclear Safety Technical Liaison for EG&G. He began his career with the Navy, serving as a nuclear-trained officer on submarines. Adam has a BS degree in Engineering Physics and an MS degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and is a registered Professional Engineer.

Brent Stout

Vice President, Training Solutions

Brent oversees EM-Assist’s training solutions division. He manages a team of project managers, instructional designers, multimedia developers, application developers, and support staff who work together to develop custom training solutions. In addition to his management and leadership skills, Brent has extensive experience as a trainer and instructional designer, which ranges from classroom delivery and group facilitation to all levels of instructional design such as gap analysis, objective writing, adult learning theory implementation, courseware development, design and development of strategic interaction, layout of course structures, and quantifiable assessment strategies. He managed the design and development of EM-Assist’s Learning Management Systems and has led numerous LMS installations. Brent has a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.

Peter Stoll

Vice President and Senior Scientist

Pete works closely with EM-Assist’s training solutions and environmental services divisions to coordinate the integration of EM-Assist’s environmental subject matter expertise and training skill to deliver unmatched environmental training solutions. He helps develop and refine techniques to maximize student knowledge retention through straightforward course content layout, navigation, and interactivity, and he coordinates with clients to make certain that all standards (such as SCORM and ADA) are incorporated into course design and delivery to ensure compliance with relevant requirements. Pete has extensive experience providing environmental training in classroom, video, computer-based, and Web-based formats. In addition to his work with the training solutions division, Pete heads EM-Assist’s company-wide information technology initiatives. Before joining EM-Assist, he was an Environmental and Atmospheric Scientist with WeatherBank, Inc. and managed a staff of meteorologists providing government clients with site-specific environmental forecasts. Pete has a BS degree in Meteorology from the University of Utah.

Wendi Shelton, PHR

Director, Human Resources

Wendi oversees EM-Assist’s human resources team, and she is responsible for career development planning and recruiting initiatives. Before joining EM-Assist, Wendi worked as the Director of Human Resources for Connor Sport Court, where she handled all human resources activities, including recruiting, compensation, and employee relations. Previously, she was a Human Resources Manager with Datum Filing Systems and Human Resources Supervisor with Danaher Tool Group. Wendi began her career as Personnel Specialist and Benefits Coordinator with Danskin. Wendi has a BA degree in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas and holds Professional in Human Resources certification.

Ted Economy, CPA

Controller

Ted oversees EM-Assist’s accounting and finance team, and he works closely with program and project managers to provide early identification of any contract budget variances to allow for prompt corrective action. He led the implementation of EM-Assist’s industry-standard Deltek contract management and accounting system, and he is responsible for regular financial reporting. Ted helps ensure compliance with Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) accounting and rate audits, and he manages EM-Assist’s annual independent financial audits. Previously, Ted worked for accounting firm Willis & Walsh, where he gained considerable experience in the accounting and financial management requirements of growing private companies. Ted has a BS degree in Accounting and Management Information Systems from California State University, Sacramento and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Chairman

Andy has more than 20 years of experience investing in private, middle-market companies across a diverse range of industries. He has invested in and managed companies with annual revenues ranging from $10 million to $900 million. Andy is the founder and Managing Director of APG Partners, a private investment firm that makes investments of up to $10 million to support the growth of successful private companies. Prior to founding APG Partners, Andy managed the Orange County office of Barrington Associates, a Los Angeles-based investment banking boutique specializing in sell-side merger and acquisition advisory services. Previously, Andy founded the Merchant Banking Department for Tucker, Anthony, Inc., was a Managing Director with private equity firm Cariad Capital, and was a Vice President with private equity firm Narragansett Capital. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of US Risk Partners, Inc. He is also a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and the Chief Executive Roundtable for the University of California, Irvine. Andy received a BA degree from Dartmouth College and an MBA degree from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School of Business Administration.

Jeffrey Evans

Director

Jeffrey has a proven track record of success as an entrepreneur, operator, and investor. He is currently Executive Chairman of Orion International, the nation's largest military recruiting firm, which specializes in placing top military leaders, engineers, and technicians with the country’s leading companies. Previously, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of OnStaff, a staffing firm which he grew from a $5 million local company to a $100 million business with 40 offices nationwide. Jeffrey began his career with On Assignment, Inc., a public staffing firm, where he acquired and subsequently ran an environmental services staffing company. He served on the U.S. President's Commission for White House Fellows, and he is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and Human Rights Watch Los Angeles Chapter. Jeffrey received a BA degree in Economics from Emory University and holds an MBA degree from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Rafael Somoza

Director

Rafael has extensive experience operating successful, growing service companies. He co-founded and served as Chief Executive Officer of VIU Media, Puerto Rico’s largest locally-owned outdoor advertising company. Prior to founding VIU Media, he was the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Quest Management Corporation, a private investment firm founded to identify, acquire, and operate a company in Puerto Rico. Previously, Rafael worked at investment bank CS First Boston, where he was involved in structuring over $1.2 billion in financings. He received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Media Category for Puerto Rico, and he currently sits on the board of the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau. Rafael graduated magna cum laude with a BA degree in Economics and Political Science from Yale University and holds an MBA degree from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.

Dana Curran

Board Advisor

Dana co-founded EM-Assist in 1996, and she currently serves as an advisor to the company’s Board of Directors. Prior to co-founding EM-Assist, Dana was the Group Leader for Air Quality and Process Engineering for CH2M HILL in California and Utah, where she managed compliance programs for Federal clients across the country. Her work included emissions inventories, Title V permitting, AB 2588 Air Toxics Hot Spots, and SARA. Previously, Dana was a Project and Environmental Engineer for Aerojet and a Project Engineer for Menasco. She is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and has served as a Director and Officer of the Air and Waste Management Association. Dana has a BS degree in Industrial Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
