Secretary of Defense Environmental Award for Environmental Restoration – Since 1962, the Secretary of Defense has recognized installations, teams, and individuals for outstanding achievement in environmental management at more than 30,000 sites at active and closing military installations as well as formerly used defense sites across the nation and U.S. territories. The Pyramid Lake team received the environmental award for restoration for successfully recovering unexploded ordnance from a former Navy torpedo and bombing range at a deep alpine lake located on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation. EM-Assist completed the project over 10 times faster and more than $100 million lower than the Federal Government’s original estimate of project duration and cost.

Secretary of the Army Environmental Award for Environmental Restoration – The Secretary of the Army awarded EM-Assist the Environmental Award for Environmental Restoration, noting that the innovative, dynamic project management saved time and money as well as fostered cooperative relationships among the various stakeholders by demonstrating that the Army is a good, responsible neighbor.

Department of the Army, Commander’s Award for Public Service – EM-Assist’s Vice President of Restoration received the Commander’s Award for Public Service for his operational management, contracting, planning, and on- and off-shore operational abilities, which contributed significantly to the $100 million reduction of Department of Defense liability and the successful completion of all Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program (NALEMP) activities at the Pyramid Lake site.

Officer Safety Training Course for Clandestine Methamphetamine Drug Labs – EM-Assist was recognized with multiple awards for custom eLearning courseware excellence in connection with a 75-minute SCORM-conformant Web-based training course developed for the Department of Justice. The course, targeted to first responder law enforcement officers, provides safety training for officers encountering clandestine methamphetamine drug labs in the line of duty. EM-Assist’s course employed rich media including illustrations, video, photographs, interactive quizzes, and discovery exercises to keep learners engaged. The course has been used by law enforcement agencies across the United States.

EM-Assist’s officer safety training course for clandestine methamphetamine drug labs won the following awards:

Aurora Award – The Aurora Awards are an international competition designed to recognize excellence in courseware that captivates and educates audiences through the creative display of educational materials.

Horizon Interactive Award – The Horizon Interactive Awards are an international competition designed to highlight the “best of the best” in interactive media production. EM-Assist’s course won in a year that saw over 2,000 entries from 32 countries.

Omni Intermedia Award – The Omni Intermedia Awards are a national competition designed to recognize outstanding media productions that engage, empower, and enlighten. Winning productions exemplify the highest standards of quality and demonstrate the convergence of the fields of film, video, television, Internet, interactive media, animation, and audio production.

Secretary of Defense Environmental Quality Individual/Team Secretary of Defense Environmental Award for Environmental Quality and the General Thomas D. White Environmental Quality Award (Individual / Team Excellence) – The 75th CEG/CEV Environmental Quality Team at Hill AFB received the Secretary of Defense Environmental Award for Environmental Quality for their development of a highly successful program for the management of base environmental, compliance, and cultural resources programs, including innovative tools, training, and procedures subsequently adopted throughout the Department of Defense.

As a key member of the contractor team supporting the 75th CEG/CEV Environmental Quality Team at Hill AFB, EM-Assist contributed to key elements of Hill’s environmental program, including reducing annual hazardous waste costs by $440,000, helping train more than 13,000 employees on environmental topics, and helping to refine the base Environmental Management System to improve operational efficiency and reduce violations.

Department of Defense Mentor-Protégé Nunn-Perry Award

Department of Defense Mentor/Protege Department of Defense Mentor-Protégé Nunn-Perry Award – The Department of Defense recognized EM-Assist as a Nunn-Perry award winner for the company’s highly successful Mentor-Protégé partnership, which developed successful environmental compliance programs for the Department of Defense while simultaneously helping EM-Assist build its technical capabilities and operational controls. Subsequently, EM-Assist was selected by the Air Force to participate in the Mentor-Protégé program as a Mentor (one of the few program graduates to have ever done so) and is currently providing similar assistance to another firm.

Environmental Business Journal Information Management Technical Merit Award

Environmental Business Journal Environmental Business Journal Information Management Technical Merit Award – The Environmental Business Journal recognized EM-Assist as a recipient of a technical merit award for the development of its Cost Reporting and Fund Reimbursement System (CRFRS). When deployed at a major Department of Defense site, CRFRS contributed to a reduction in annual waste management and disposal costs of 23% ($570,000 per year) and a reduction of 34% (376 tons per year) in the annual quantity of hazardous waste disposed, with no decrease in production levels.
